PhotoRescue - Dyno Don

Dyno Don sent in this great utility.

These days, everyone has a digital camera. Most have removable media. It's pretty easy to make a mistake, and lose all of your photos. An accidental format will do it. If you were writing to your compact flash card (saving a new picture) and lose battery power, you can corrupt the card, and not be able to get ANY of the images off - not just the one you were saving. That is, until PhotoRescue.

From the site:

The trial version will only let you preview what can be rescued. If the photos you want are there, you order the paid version. It's SIMPLE to use.

I tested it on a corrupted compact flash card - and was able to recover the photos.

If you've lost vacation or wedding photos, the $29 price is a bargain.

Thanks, Don!

le Tour de France: Official Site - Ron in San Bruno

Ron in San Bruno wrote this review.

The Tour de France is in high gear now and one of the best places to keep informed in on the official web site of the race. After each stage of the race, the site is updated with results, stories, and pictures. Off to the left are buttons that link to details about the Tour Leader, the Stage Winner, the King of the Hill (the best hill climber), and the point leader (though the race is only won by riding faster than everyone else). Standings of all the racers, an elevation profile of the course, and weather forecasts are also given. All this is in English, but the Chat, Message Boards, and live broadcast stream are probably 'en Français'.

Additional side bars provide maps, history of the race, sponsor information, and more. The USPS team (the GOOD GUYS) have their own subset of the site containing interviews, etc. Everyone knows Lance Armstrong won the last three Tours, but I didn't know he good friends with Eddy Merckx (the greatest cyclist of the 20th century). There is also information on the technology applied to bicycle racing and a Kilometer/Miles conversion chart for us non-metric people.

Last, but not least, rabid cycling fans can buy an official 2002 Tour jersey on line. Hurry, the Euro is gaining on the Dollar as I type!"

Cool site - thanks, Ron!

le Tour de France: another site - Dudley

Dudley sent in this "le Tour de France" web site. Dudley says: "There are several sites for this race but this seems the best. It has live minute-by-minute reports (not TV) as the race proceeds."

More cool Tour de France coverage. Thanks, Dudley!

Computer Talk Audio Links - Jack from Goshen, NY

Jack from Goshen, NY says: "Can't get enough of O'Donnell on Computers. Listened to the archives more times than you can count. We all know O'Donnell on Computers is the "ONLY" Computer Talk radio show but, it's not the only computer talk radio show. If you are a fan of Bobs' show I think you will find a few others on this site that are almost as informative and entertaining. If you can't get through to Bob there are also links to Computer Help Forums. Some are general computer help while others get more specific, such as web development or networking."

Jack continues: "The home page links to weekday shows, Saturday, Sunday, Archived Shows and Help Forums."

Jack continues: "While on the home page check out some of the 'hot spot' audio clips on the radio dial."

Jack continues: "OK, I confess, I put this site together and it is my first attempt at a web site. I used many sources to find stations that stream including individually checking several hundred radio stations. I think the list is current but if any additions or deletions are needed I would appreciate some feedback. There is a guest book and an e mail link on the home page."

Jack continues: "Hope everyone enjoys my 'bookmark' of Computer Talk Radio."

Pick a day, and you can see by hour what is on. There's a link for streaming audio, as well as links to archives where they exist.

This is a great site for computer talk fans. I'll be bookmarking it.

Thanks, Jack!
