The Smoking Gun - Solinas

I thought The Smoking Gun was worth a mention.

The Smoking Gun is best known for is "Mug Shot Mania". Any time a celebrity get arrested, the next day you can see their mugshot on this site. It's a place where you can see the famous Nick Nolte mugshot.

Another popular feature - put online the riders for contracts used by 134 acts - "everyone from Frank Sinatra and the Rolling Stones to Kenny G and KC & the Sunshine Band." The riders cover things like:

Another popular feature - legal documents.

A rather unique site - worth checking out.

FileSearching Driver Search - Dyno Don

Dyno Don says: "Can't recall this being posted and didn't find it on WW's site so here goes: I've been looking at this site for finding drivers. It's a search engine that searches FTP-servers. It's a fairly simple site but what a source of info. It offers a "driver" list so you can narrow your search a little. Oddly under printers HP is not listed. Lots of HP stuff if you do a search but apparently not much in the way of HP drivers on FTP sites, weird. As explained on the site what's cool is you end up finding the actual file not just a description of the file.

From the site: FileSearch is the search engine allowing you to find a file among millions of files located on FTP-servers. The search engine database contains the regularly updated information on the contents of thousands FTP-servers worldwide.

As Don noticed - there are some holes here. It's menu driven - but menus are incomplete. I am looking at 2 monitors right now - an HP Pavilion and a Sharp. Neither are listed under the monitor category. Neither is my Diamond Supra modem.

But - if you hit what you want, you're in like gold. I selected my printer (Epson), clicked on the model number, and got results - two links right to the ftp file. Now - one was 2.7M (Epson site), the other 667.4K (Russian site), and both had the same name!

If they list the product you need drivers for, it's a great engine. Hopefully, they'll expand the menus - that would make the site killer.

Thanks, Don!

A must-visit for movie fans. Check it out.

Thanks, Steve!

The British Library - Charles in San Francisco

Charles in San Francisco found the British Library.

It's actually more like a cross between a Library and a museum. I mean, you can take a peek at the DaVinci Notebbooks, and other historical documents.

Great site - thanks, Charles!
