KSFO's Web Wanderer
The Links for July 27, 1996
- Cassie, a young lady at work, had a problem. Her garden was producing far more zucchini than she could use, and she, like many others this time of year, brought in several bags to share with coworkers. It's that season.
- Your humble Web Wanderer helped solve her problem, but noticed quite a few people weren't exactly sure what to do with the vegetable. They needed help from the Web.
- Initial wanderings for recipe databases were disappointing. Some sites where small (one had nothing for "zucchini," and only 6 recipes for "tomato") or were cumbersome to navigate. After much wandering, I finally found some good sites
Searchable Online Archive of Recipes
- My search turned up this gem of a site - almost 28,000 recipes with a good search engine. Searches drew plenty of hits. The site is great for browsing as well - it's well organized, with topics like "Main Courses," "Ethnic Food,", etc.
- I had some trouble with the quick search link, but using the FORMS version gave more flexibility and much better results.
- I rate this site four chefs hats.
USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning
- Getting tired of eating all those veggies? Put 'em up. Canning, I mean. All you need to know to make home preserves, and eat them without killing yourself. Web pages are downloadable in Adobe Acrobat format, for easy printing.
Virtual Mr. Spud Head
- No list of vegetable sites would be complete without an online Mr. Potato Head. You have your potato, your body parts, what more do you need? You can even change vegetables. You can't use a zucchini, but you can use Newt and Bill.
