The Links for September 7, 1996

All listener picks!!! All of the picks this week were submissions from O'Donnell on Computers listeners. These are great sites. If you know of a goodie I haven't featured yet, please email me at suggestions@solinas.com. With great sites like these, I may never have to surf again!

Yahoo San Francisco Bay Area
Daniel M. Gold of Data Systems Search Consultants submitted this one. Yahoo has "localized menus" now. If you look through the classifieds, you see only job listings and real estate for this area, etc. Vidcams listed are all local places. Weather? Just the local reports, of course.

This is a nice site. Yahoo is almost growing too quickly - sorting through pages of, say weather links to find a local one can take time. www.sfbay.yahoo.com/ does it for you.

Living Books
Teri Lengle, former O'Donnell on Computers Producer, found this on GINA (Global Internet News Agency) and forwarded it to me. Living Books is a producer of CDROM interactive storybooks for children. This site features games, stories, etc. The coloring book lets you mix colors - put a color in each of two cups, they fall over and the paint spills and mixes. Cute stuff.

For adults, there are product demo, sales, freebies. Most of the stuff for adults is "under construction," but the kids area seems pretty much complete.

This is yet another Shockwave site, with LOTS of animations. Read that as "each page can be slow to load" - but a text menu further down the page lets you navigate quickly.
Celebrity Slugfest
Many thanks to Trevor Rieger for finding and submitting this one!

This is, by far, the funniest thing I've seen on the web. If you haven't already installed Shockwave, do it NOW and check out this site. I give it a 5 out of 5 on the "ROTFLMAO" scale.

Celebrity Slugfest is a game. You can pick the celebrity of your choice, and have a boxing match. You move left, right and punch with your left or right hand. The celebrity fights back - you'll get a punch or two yourself.

There's a good number of celebrities. Hate Rush Limbaugh? Does David Letterman annoy you? This is the site for you. I beat the crap out of Tori Spelling. Trevor asks me "Is it my imagination, or does Madonna put up a fight?". Don't pass this site up.
