Yet Another Listener Picks Edition??

You guys are good. Very good. I found some sites for this week, but you loyal listeners found better. So - I'm going, once again with your picks. Keep 'em coming! Send submissions to:submissions@solinas.com.

Frank Condron's World O'Windows
Listener "Taxi Mike" submitted this one. This is a VERY hot information site for Windows users - 95, NT and CE.

This site fills a real need. There are the typical links to companies and drivers, but much, much more. There is a News page, so you can see at a glance what's new with Windows. The HOTTEST think on this site is the detailed information about how to do things. For example - say you want to get help on "how to set up windows 95 for PPP connections," There are very simple, clear instructions on Frank's page. The structure of this is outstanding - it really exploits the advantages of hypertext for "what if's" in instructional information.

The site is FULL of information and tips - useful for New Users just getting things started and veteran users who want some clever streamlining tips. The Quick Tips are especially valuable. A Great, great site. Thanks, "Taxi Mike"!

GovBot
Listener Lea, hostmistress of the Blackjack Forum Web Site, found this gem for us. It's a search engine, with a big difference. GovBot searches 307,826 web pages from U.S. Government and Military sites around the country.

Why is restricting your search to Government sites useful? Simple - no junk. Anyone who has spent an hour or two with a search engine knows that much of what is returned is junk. Searching only the government site avoids lots of goofy stuff.

Simple example - run a search on "Hale-Bopp" and see what you get. No goofy stuff, no junk - just lots of good, solid links.

Thanks, Lea, for this find!!
Da Tangled Web
Now for a site a little more on the "lighter" side. Listener Sterling sent in this one. Da Tangled Web is a site dedicated to "taking some of the tangle out of the World Wide Web."

Break up your computer work with a few fun sites. Da Tangled Web features "Chataholic Land", "free loot on the web", "cybergifts", etc. Nothing serious here. Some useful sites, like links to download text and voice chat clients.

Worth a browse. Check out. Thanks, Sterling.

More software drivers!

Win 95 Update Page
Listener Lou checked out Soft Help , my recommendation for software drivers. He didn't find what he was looking for.

He did find it on the Win 95 Update Page. So - if there's a hard to find driver you're looking for, try this site.

Thank you very much, Lou, for giving this to site to our listeners!

Tom's Hardware and Performance Guide
Bob and I have mentioned this site several times. Today, in response to a listener question, Bob mentioned it again. It's THE site for PC hardware information.

If you need to know anything about processors, etc, this is the place.

Note - as Bob mentioned, you might notice an anti-Intel bias in the commentary. Still - Tom provides some very useful information.
