The Links for April 26, 1997
Concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Here's another KILLER site submitted by Taxi Mike, perfect for the summer! Concert listings. Listings for a ton of concerts in the SF Bay Area.
- "The Concerts in the San Francisco Bay Area page is arranged in alphabetical order by venue name and then in chronological order by date of event. The only information given is the date, venue and artist. Links to artist pages are made when possible."
- There isn't a formal search engine, but you can load the main page and search it using "control-f". This works in both IE and NS. I actually found dates for a one of my favorite bands - Little Feat. Obscure, but listed on this page. Very good!!
- The site is kept current. It was updated shortly before midnight, last night. Check it out!
- Taxi Mike wants to know if there are better Concert sites out there. Come on, listeners - find your best, and submit them.
Ask Jeeves
- Danger Will Robinson!!! This site has ENORMOUS time wasting potential! It also has enormous time saving potential. Ask Jeeves is a search engine which finds answers to questions written in plain english.
- Being a math-geek, I asked "What is the square root of nine?". I was lead to a page describing how to calculate square roots by hand on an "Ask Dr. Math" page. Very slick. As a very big plus, besides the direct links, it performs a meta search of the major search engines, for easy browsing.
- Regular KSFO listeners will can find information on current issues - "What is MTBE?" brought lots of hits.
- I tried "how do I remove water stains from furniture?", and didn't get a direct answer, but many of the links suggested in the metasearch sound promising.
- Bookmark this puppy, and use it often. Very, very cool.
Slap a Spice Girl
- Yet another from Taxi Mike. The Spice girls are a very annoying pop group. Why this page? The author says "It makes a joke out of delivering a cartoon slap to the manufactured, Tory loving, plastic, cartoon phenomenon that is the Spice Girls. The game delivers a pretend slap to pretend people making pretend music in a pretend showbiz world." Says it all.
- Load up shockwave, and give it a try.
- This is all very similar in concept to Celebrity Slugfest, featured here earlier. Kind of "therapy on the net." Worth a look.
Marble Drop
- Dr Rom loved Marble Drop, by Maxis, and spotlighted it today on Bob's show. Here's a link to download a free demo, or a free desktop theme for Windows 95, get more information, order online, etc..
