KSFO's Web Wanderer
The Links for June 21, 1997
Spencer's Beer Page
- Not only are Bob and I computer geeks, we both brew beer. It isn't hard, you just need to know how. Spencer's Beer Page will start you off with all you need to get brewing.
- There's a link for people new to brewing called "How to Brew your First Beer." It's a complete, brief overview to brewing.
- Veteran brewers will love the recipes. If you're into more exotic related drinks - mead, kvass, etc, there's some information for that as well. You can search several years worth of Brewing Mailing Lists if you have specific needs.
- I'll be coming back to this site often. It's hosted by The Real Beer Page, which is well worth an extensive wandering itself.
- So - get off your Duff ("Mmmmmmmmm....Beer!") and start a batch.
The Nine Planets
- Frequent listener David sent in this one. The Nine Planets is a great great astronomy page for people of all ages. The site is mirrored on 54 different sites. The link above is to the primary, author maintained site.
- You can get a quick overview from the "Express Tour". Touring the entire site, some 60+ pages, would take you some time. The site is easy to navigate, and full of information.
- There's lots of graphics, of course, and links for tons more.
- Sites like this will make your web wandering worthwhile. Check it out. Thanks, David, for this fine find.
Search Engine Watch
- This is another great Taxi Mike find. It's not a search engine, but a site ABOUT search engines. This is an "everything you need to know about.." type of site.
- Of general interest are the histories of the major search engines, descriptions of the difference between search engines and directories, and related information.
- Webmasters will find in formation on how search engines work, how search engines rank pages, and tips on how to improve your ranking on searches. Remember - you want to be in the top 10 on keyword searches. Not sure why? This site will tell you.
- Search engine users will find the reviews and "how to use" information extremely valuable.
- Be sure to check this one out. Thanks, Taxi Mike, for yet another great find!
Super Marketing - Ads from Comic Books
- Greg sent me this one. He must know my love for nostalgia from my childhood.
- Comic book readers will love this collection of advertising art from comic books. All of the classics are there - Charles Atlas, 100 toy soldiers in a pasteboard footlocker, art schools, ant farms, etc. The "ant farm" graphic will become by background screen soon. There's also some strange stuff here - "Free!! While they last! 10 "Hitler Heads" FREE!!"
- I love it. Check it out. Thanks, Greg!
