ScreenShot
- How many times have you downloaded software, and hated it from the time the screen opened? This site ends that problem.
- There are a TON of software sites out there, but I like the main theme of this one. You can view a screen shot showing what the software looks like before you waste your time downloading.
- For me, the look of a package tells a lot. Does it look user friendly? Are the windows contain what I'd like? Is it only menu driven? Are there lots of obvious buttons?
- Other pluses - the site is well organized, and easy to navigate.
- Bookmark this puppy.
Big Charts
- You can thank Nerdly Nullman for finding this VERY handy site.
- The most popular use of the internet at my job is for checking stock prices. Now, there's lots of stock price sites. Most are free, some contain mutual funds, etc. Performance at these sites varies tremendously - from fast to very slow.
- This site is fast. Very fast. Great for a quick peek between meetings. It uses cookies to save your configuration, so you can quickly check just the stocks you are interested in.
- The main page has the major market indices, and quick links for big movers (price and volume), momentum stocks with big moves, etc. It's great.
- The site uses cookies to store your favorites. You can click a button on the main page, and view thumbnails of all your favorite stocks. Click on a thumbnail, and you get a full sized stock.
- I think I'd rate this as the best "quick peek" stock site I've seen. Check it out.
- Thanks, Nerdly!
Museum of the City of San Francisco
- Listener "B. Weed" was surprised I hadn't featured this one before.
- This site is great. The stuff you'd expect is here: The Gold Rush. The Great Quake and the Great Fire. the 1989 Quake. The Oakland Firestorm. (Oakland? Ok, close enough).
- A nice surprise was the Chronology of Rock, 1965-1969 and the biography section.
- Also included is a search engine if you don't have time to browse.
- Check it out. Thanks, "B Weed", for the nice find!
New, Improved NotePad
- Listener Randy offered this great software find.
- I use notepad occasionally. My single biggest complaint is that most files seem too large to fit, so Win95 offers me Wordpad. Wordpad defaults to ".doc" files, which I find annoying. Not annoying enough to find a workaround, just annoying enough to be annoying. (Eh?)
- Randy found a program, NotePad+ which is like a "higher octane" NotePad. It'll handle all of your quickie tasks, but is NOT limited by file size. It also has other nice features: it allows you to send e-mail from within Notepad. It allows you to quickly reopen up to 8 documents, save all, create a shortcut. You can change fonts and colors. Plus, as they say, lots, lots more!
- This is a MUST GET program.
- Randy, this is a GREAT little app. Thanks VERY MUCH for submitting it.
Scooter Ride Through Hell
- This site was found by Ted and "Chewey the wonder Chihuahua". Ted and Chewey find sites which tend to be a little strange. This one is no exception. Chewy says:
- "Okay, after surfing for any length of time, brain death is eminent! So,
check this one out if you feel brave. Somehow I stumbled upon it, and I say it's worth a mention. Just make sure you have a little bit of free time, and your "sense of humor" plug-in enabled.. It's worthless but fun! "
- I checked it out. It is worth a visit.
- It's one of those "performance art" type of sites. It exists, but you're not sure why. It has a concept, but you wonder why someone actually took the trouble to create it. It's clear it did take some work, and you wonder about the author.
- It IS a refreshing break from corporate websites, and is more interactive than TV. Worth a look.
- Thanks, Ted and Chewey!
