The Links for December 20, 1997

Study Web
Study Web is another fine Taxi Mike find. Taxi Mike says "Click on the Full Table of Contents for a brief overview and then explore to you hearts content. Very, very cool!!"

I agree completely - I lost track of time exploring this site, and that happens about one site in a hundred for me!

Study Web is GREAT for kids to find backup material for classes they are taking. It's alos a fantastic site for adults to find links for a quick refresher, or to learn something they never were taught in school. Sorry - in New Jersey, we never studied "Canadian History." Now is my chance.

This one is a keeper, and well worth any time you spend exploring. Bookmark it, and keep coming back.

Thanks, Taxi Mike. This site makes up for your Spumco find.

Yesterday, USA
I'm a big Real Audio fan. There's a ton of stuff out there worth listening to, on the net, for free.

"Yesterday, USA" is a radio station that broadcasts actual radio shows from the 1920s - 1950s, 24 hours a day. You can listen to YUSA via the Internet, C-band satellite dishes, some cable systems, and various low-power AM & FM stations! (Select "How To Listen" from the menu on the left more more information.)

This web sites allows you to click on a Real Audio broadcast of the show.

YUSA operates on two week cycles. During each two week period a total of 70 hours of programming is presented. 24 of those 70 hours are shows containing OTR shows created by YUSA DJs and located on 16 ninety minute tapes. The remaining 266 hours in the two week period contains repeats of those 16 program tapes, allowing the listenter to re-listen and record their favorite shows at a convenient time. (Select "Program Info" from the menu on the left more more information.)

I really enjoyed this site. If you've registered the Real Audio player, give this site a preset.

FAQs
Back on August 23, 1997 I featured a site containing FAQs - Frequently Asked Question lists. This site is better.

In many Usenet newsgroups, new people join and ask the same old questions. Rather than answer these questions again, old timers create a Frequently Asked Questions list - common questions and answers.

Consequently, FAQs are the FIRST place you should check for answers to questions you have on thousands of items.

This site contains FAQ related information, and FTP and hypertext FAQ repositories.

When you need an answer - come here. Bookmark this one - you will find it very, very handy.

Filez
Randy sent this one. It's yet another file site. I've featured quite a few software sites, and this one is a worthy addition to the list.

It's not the best organized site, but it has a search engine, so if you know what you're looking for, you should find it here.

A big plus - the site has LOTS of files. 75 million, according to their count. If you can't find it here, well, you're probably out of luck.

It has a nice feature - when looking at a software review, you can see links to related, or similar software. For example, one of the Top 20 APPS was Eudora Pro. The summary page had a description, and links to Pegasus Mail, PGP, and Spam Hater. There was also a link for Eudora Tips, which tells of an Easter Egg. Quite a nice feature.

Thanks, Randy - this site is well worth a bookmark.

Dr. Fun
PyroTim suggested I tell you about Dr. Fun.

Dr. Fun is an Internet institution. If you've never visited the site, take a trip today.

Doctor Fun is a single-panel, full-color cartoon, updated every weekday, that has been running on the Internet since 1993. That makes it ancient by internet standards, but still going strong.

The cartoons are well done, and quite funny. Well worth a visit.

Thanks, PyroTim, for the pick!
