KSFO's Web Wanderer

The Links for October 31, 1998

The Haunted Homepage
The Haunted Homepage is an online adventure game. You start the game by clicking on the star in the left hand frame, and find yourself looking at a haunted house, and can click on things - the door mat, windows, door, etc. Everything is point and click.

This would be a fun site for kids to explore. So - if your little one gets tired of collecting candy, put him or her in front of the computer to play this game. It'll be a lot of fun.

Check it out.

The Haunted Cemetery
This site is similar to the Haunted Page, but more suitable for older kids. The graphics are more interesting, and a little scarier.

Both sites - the Haunted Page and The Haunted Cemetery, are interested uses of html to make online adventure games. Well worth a visit.

Find a Grave
Xerxes found this one. It's interesting, but odd. I can probably only feature it at Halloween, since it's kind of appropriate.

Find a grave is exactly that. A site dedicated to providing information on locating grave sites for Actors (there are 298 listed), Actresses (163), animals, artists. musicians, criminals, etc.

You can also sort by Name or Location.

There's even photos of the grave sites.

Odd, but interesting. Thanks, Xerxes.

War of the Worlds
Bob, The Old Fogey, takes a step up the culture ladder from Jailbabes to "War of the Worlds".

It's the 60th Anniversary of War of the Worlds Radio Broadcast on October 30th, 1998. This site has the complete Orson Wells "War of the worlds" broadcast in streaming Audio.

It isn't a real audio quickie, because of the other content there. In addition to streaming video about the broadcast, there's links to old radio scripts, merchandise based on the story (books, video games, etc).

Very complete. Turn out the lights, give a listen, and explore the site.

Great one, Bob the Old Fogey. Thanks!

Network Design and Research Center
Don in Santa Rosa found this one.

The Tutorials section is extensive. You'll find anything on networking or electronics you're looking for on this one.

There's a page of "Basic Electricity, Electronics, ...and More." This page lists just about every technical term you can imagine, with links to explain the concept. It appears he's researched the terms and found the BEST link for each - he doesn't just use one site, like WHATIS, but sends you all over the place. And the information is excellent.

Great site, Don in Santa Rosa! Thanks!

Family Point
Sister Anne and Spudman announced their engagement this week. A big welcome to Spudman to the Solinas family.

Spudman has already been participating in family stuff, though. Anne found "FamilyPoint" - a very cool web site for families to communicate.

You register your family and family members. This site then handles what would normally take a bunch of other applications - chat software, email, photo attachments, calendar with reminders, notifications of new posts, etc.

Very cool. You can post pictures for others, start message threads, leave notes on the refrigerator door, put reminders in the calendar, and ever initiate a chat when others are logged in at the same time.

Very cool stuff, and free. Check this out. Thanks, Anne!

Napa Steve's Real Quickies

Napa Steve is THE MAN when it comes to finding Real Audio and Real Video sites, his finds are now a regular feature of the Web Wanderer's Report. Every week, Napa Steve will try to find one or two hot Real sites. This week we have one from Napa Steve, and a new favorite of mine):

Shuttle Countdown Online
Napa Steve sent in this site which has detailed information about mission. The focus is mainly through liftoff, since it is run by the Kennedy Space Center, with good real media on it. Worth a check.

NASA TV on Broadcast.com
Cable TV caries the NASA channel, which has real-time shuttle coverage. Broadcast.com also carries the feed. Fun to watch!
