Wired Magazine's The Year in Online Video - Dan in Vancouver, Washington

Dan in Vancouver, Washington found Wired magazine's list of the top online videos of this year.

Here's a few I've seen:

I'll be checking out the others as well.

Thanks, Dan!

SHELLCITY'S BEST OF 2006 - Santa Rosa Steve

Santa Rosa Steve says: "SHELLCITY'S BEST OF 2006 -- All week long, friends.. In reverse order, as picked by you."

Here's some of the cool stuff listed so far:

They will add more picks until New Years Eve, when the good stuff hits. Check it out!

There looks like a lot of cool stuff here to explore!

Thanks, Steve!

Free For All!

"Free For All" picks are hot, FREE items or services. It can be software, online services, you name it - but it's got to be free, with no strings attached.

Driver Collector - Dan in Vancouver, Washington

Dan in Vancouver, Washington says: "Driver Collector, finds and collects installed windows drivers for the hardware you select on your PC. Great for when you need to re-install Windows."

This software solves the biggest hsssles in doing a windows reinstall - getting all of the drivers.

From the site: "Driver Collector is a tool designed to find and collect installed windows drivers for the hardware you select on your PC. Once you tell it which type of drivers you want to collect, it will copy them to a specific folder. This can be very handy when preparing for a format and reinstall of Windows, especially when you or a client have since lost the computers driver disks."

Looks useful - thanks Dan!

Agax13 Online Apps - Santa Rosa Steve

Santa Rosa Steve found this on Lockergnome on December 19, 2006.

Alice Hill of RealTechNews writes: "Online apps keep on getting better. Our own David Johnston has been a big fan of OpenOffice as a competitor to the traditional suite of Microsoft Office apps you load on your own system. But here’s a suite of similar apps (spreadsheet, word processor, presentation, drawing, etc.) from Ajax13 that loads in your browser (meaning no download necessary), works on any OS, and works with Microsoft Office and OpenOffice files in seconds. Pretty slick. And most of the apps are under 400K, so they load in seconds, too."

"We Think: With more of us online all the time, the days of the $499 office suite are looking a little pricey. Office 2007 has a very nice new UI that may keep us corporate users down on the farm another year or so, but for many college students and people on the go - give this a try."

Comparing these applications to their "MS Office equivalent":

From the site: "ajaxTunes is a web-based music player that lets you play high-quality streaming music straight from the Internet on any computer. It gives you all the basic controls (pause, fast-forward, rewind, selecting playlist or arists) in a mini layout which won't clog up your desktop."

"Try ajaxTunes immediately, it has been preloaded with a demo account containing songs from more than 25 artists. You can also create your own locker, add your own music collection and choose from over 40,000 songs to add to your personal playlists."

"To provide you with all this great music, ajaxTunes utilizes a feature rich music locker. This locker is an AJAX based music manager to which you can upload music available on the web, called Sideloading, or send music directly from your own computer. You now have access to your favorite songs from anywhere in the world, and have the ability to sync to other computers, players or devices. Once you get your own free music locker, go to www.sideload.com to start Sideloading right away, or register for a MP3tunes Premium account and sync your own personal library!"

Cool stuff - thanks Steve!

IE7: Google Version - Santa Rosa Steve

Santa Rosa Steve found that Google has released a customised version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) browser in which Google, not Windows Live Search, is the default search engine

Google's customised version of IE7 can be downloaded from this website.

Features of IE7:

What does "optimized for Google" mean?

I use IE occasionally (works with Mastercook Toolbar), so I'll give this a look as well.

Thanks, Steve!

i-lighter - Santa Rosa Steve

Santa Rosa Steve spotted i-lighter

"i-Lighter™ is a simple way to save information you want, find it again when you want it, add notes where you want, use it and share it. It's as easy as using that highlighter and sticky notes that are on your desk."

"See something you want to save? Simply hit 'Start i-Lighting' on the i-Lighter™ menu and watch your cursor turn into a yellow i-Lighter™ marker. Go ahead and highlight text and images; the highlighted information is instantly transmitted to your personal Web-based i-Lighter™ account. Adding iNotes, or personal annotations, is just as simple."

"Retrieving your information is just as easy- just click on i-Lighter™ icon in the taskbar tray. With i-Lighter you can email your i-Lighted information, tag it, insert into a word document or post it to your blog."

"i-Lighter is an online yellow highlighter that easily and intuitivly collects, organizes, and shares web content."
